Project: Caroma Factory & Offices Asbestos Removal & Roof Replacement
Case Study
Caroma
Factory & Offices
Location:
Victoria Road, Wetherill Park
Size:
50,000 m²
Scope:
Asbestos Removal & Roof Replacement
Challenge
50,000m² Reroof With Zero Production Downtime
A key project requirement was maintaining uninterrupted business operations throughout the asbestos removal and reroofing works.
The facility needed to remain fully operational while extensive asbestos roof replacement was undertaken, requiring careful planning and close coordination with site management to minimise disruption to production and staff while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Solution
Nine Months, Weekend-Only Access, Section by Section
This large-scale asbestos reroofing project was completed in carefully planned stages over a nine-month period.
Works commenced during the Christmas shutdown period and continued across weekends when weather permitted, maximising available access while minimising disruption to operations.
Working within a limited window from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, each stage followed strict asbestos removal protocols including pre-internal cover up, continuous air monitoring, asbestos removal, installation of the new roof system, site clean-up, and independent clearance certification before staff re-entered the area allowing production to recommence.
The building was re-roofed using new Colorbond® steel roofing, with new Eureka insulation, fibreglass roof sheeting, ventilation systems, cappings, flashings and gutters installed as part of the complete roof replacement. Each section was fully completed and certified before production recommenced.
Outcome
Fully Operational Throughout, Fully Compliant at Every Stage
Through detailed planning, careful staging and close coordination with site management, the facility remained operational throughout the project. The asbestos roof was safely removed and replaced with a modern, compliant roofing system while maintaining production, minimising disruption to staff and operations, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance were achieved at every stage.
