Project: Sims Metal Milperra Asbestos Removal & Roof Replacement
Case Study
Sims Metal
Milperra
Location:
Milperra
Size:
4,500 m²
Scope:
Asbestos removal, Roof Replacement & Wall Cladding
Challenge
Structural Demolition & Asbestos Removal Within an Active Recycling Yard
This project at an operational SIMS Metal recycling facility involved more than asbestos removal and re-roofing. Part of the existing structure and redundant roof area needed to be dismantled, with sections lifted out by crane. Works had to be carefully staged around site operations, security requirements and active recycling-yard activity.
Solution
Crane-Assisted Demolition, Asbestos Removal & Full Roof & Wall Replacement
R.O. Steel Roofing coordinated the asbestos removal, structural demolition and replacement roofing works through detailed planning and controlled staging. The existing redundant structure was safely dismantled and removed by crane in sections before the new roofing and cladding works were completed. The new system included Trimdek roof sheeting, Colorbond wall cladding, Eureka insulation, Ausmesh safety mesh, gutters and downpipes.
Outcome
A Safer, Renewed Facility Delivered With Minimal Disruption to Operations
The project was completed within the required timeframe while allowing the recycling facility to continue operating with minimal disruption. SIMS Metal received a renewed, safer and more functional roofing and cladding system, with the redundant structure removed and the building upgraded for ongoing use.
